2. Vận dụng từ vựng về Friends vào IELTS Speaking

Part 1:

1. Do you have a best friend?

Yes, I do. I’ve been best friends with Mai for over ten years now. We met in middle school and have stayed close ever since. She’s someone I can completely trust, and we always have each other’s back. No matter how busy life gets, we always find time to catch up and support each other.

Từ vựng:

  • Have each other’s back: Luôn sẵn sàng giúp đỡ, hỗ trợ nhau

  • Catch up: Gặp để trò chuyện, cập nhật tình hình

2. How often do you meet your friends?

I try to meet my close friends at least once or twice a week, usually during the weekends. We often go out for coffee, watch a movie, or just take a walk and talk. Even when we can’t meet in person, we always stay in touch through phone calls or texts. I believe that maintaining friendships takes effort, but it’s definitely worth it.

Từ vựng:

  • Stay in touch: Giữ liên lạc

  • Maintain friendships: Duy trì tình bạn

Part 2:

Describe a close friend you have

I’d like to talk about my best friend, Linh, who has been by my side for more than ten years. We first met in secondary school when we were assigned to the same group project. At that time, I was quite shy and reserved, while she was confident and outgoing. Despite our differences, we clicked right away and gradually became inseparable.

What makes Linh special is her genuine personality. She is honest, caring, and never pretends to be someone she’s not. I still remember one time when I was being unfairly blamed for something I didn’t do in class, and she stood up for me without hesitation. That moment made me realize how brave she is.

Over the years, we’ve created countless memories together. We’ve studied for exams late into the night, gone on spontaneous trips, and supported each other through thick and thin. Sometimes, we argue, of course, but we always talk things through and never hold grudges.

Our friendship is built on mutual trust and understanding, which I believe is the key to any long-lasting relationship. Even now, although we’re studying and working in different cities, we still keep in touch regularly through messages and video calls. Whenever we meet, it feels like no time has passed at all.

To me, Linh is more than just a friend. She’s someone who motivates me to be a better version of myself. I truly treasure our friendship and hope it will last a lifetime.

Từ vựng:

  • Reserved: kín đáo, khép kín

  • Outgoing: cởi mở, hòa đồng

  • Clicked right away: hợp nhau ngay từ đầu

  • Inseparable: không thể tách rời

  • Genuine personality: tính cách chân thành

  • Stand up for (someone): đứng ra bảo vệ ai đó

  • Loyal: trung thành
  • Spontaneous trips: những chuyến đi ngẫu hứng
  • Through thick and thin: trong mọi hoàn cảnh, dù tốt hay xấu

  • Talk things through: nói chuyện để giải quyết vấn đề

  • Hold grudges: để bụng, thù dai

  • Mutual trust and understanding: sự tin tưởng và thấu hiểu lẫn nhau

  • Keep in touch: giữ liên lạc

  • Motivate (someone) to be a better version of themselves: truyền cảm hứng để ai đó trở nên tốt hơn

  • Treasure (a friendship): trân trọng tình bạn

Part 3:

1. Why are friends important in life?

Friends are important because they provide both emotional and practical support. Having a good friend means you always have someone to talk to, share your happiness or sadness with, and even get advice from when you’re facing challenges. Besides, friends help us grow as individuals by exposing us to new ideas and different perspectives. In many ways, they’re like a second family that we choose for ourselves.

Từ vựng:

  • Grow as individuals: Phát triển bản thân

  • Different perspectives: Những góc nhìn khác nhau

2. Do people in your country often keep in touch with old friends?

Yes, I think many people in my country really value long-term friendships. Even if they move to another city or get caught up with work and family life, they still try to stay connected. Nowadays, with social media, it’s easier than ever to keep in touch. Many people also organize reunions, especially during holidays like Tet, where they can catch up and reconnect with old classmates or childhood friends.

Từ vựng:

  • Value long-term friendships: Trân trọng tình bạn lâu dài

  • Caught up with work: Bận rộn với công việc

  • Reunions: Buổi họp mặt

  • Reconnect: Kết nối lại
